Victor Frankenstein was looking for the life. He was trying to create life. It was forbidden because God is the only one who can create life. That is why he worked in solitude and didn't want anyone to find out about it. He was obsessed with trying to create life through science and that's how he created the monster. Frankenstein regrets making it and feels horrible about it. If he was allowed to do it then he wouldn't feel bad but it is illegal.
Today people take steroids to enhance muscle growth and performance in order to help them succeed. It is illegal that's why it's forbidden knowledge.
