Victor Frankenstein was seeking being able to give the gift of life which was know as the "forbidden information". This knowledge is to powerful to be controlled by any man, which is the reason why only God is capable of such a great power. There are reasons why this knowledge is not given to man and only to god. It was not worth tampering with the gift of life because in the end the only thing Victor was able to create was a monster.

"Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which i should first break though, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world"- Victor.

In todays society the use of steroids is a good example of forbidden knowledge. Only a doctor should have the power to distribute steroids because if you use it in the wrong way it can mess everything up.
